This volume, developed within the framework of the EFR (École française de Rome) strategic project Repenser le Xe siècle au prisme des territoires: régulations et résistances dans une Europe en reformation (870-1000), presents a historiographical assessment of the tenth century on a European scale. By comparing the different historiographical traditions of the last sixty years, it seeks to outline an overall framework of the issues that define the tenth century in contemporary scholarship.

Tiziana Lazzari is Full Professor of Medieval History at the University of Bologna. Her research focuses on the political and social structures of the early and high Middle Ages, kinship and its representations, and women’s political and economic agency.
