The tenth century has long been characterized as a period of cultural decline and stagnation. An interdisciplinary and data-based approach challenges this view, presenting new evidence for a more vibrant and dynamic intellectual landscape. Trends in manuscript production, literary output, and the development of educational frameworks demonstrate significant continuity with the Carolingian period, coupled with innovative adaptations and the emergence of new forms of knowledge. These findings highlight the importance of regional variations, the role of intellectual networks, and the agency of local actors in shaping cultural developments that allow for a shift in perspective on the understanding of the long tenth century.
