Only about twenty texts from the 10th century related to historic Dalmatia have been recorded. Nevertheless, these writings reflect foundational elements of Croatian memory and identity : the birth of the Kingdom of Croatia in 925, the region’s submission to the papacy during the councils of Split in 925 and 928, and the first account of the migration of the Croats into Dalmatia. Some of these documents, whose authenticity is uncertain, were transmitted for the first time through modern collections that provide representations offering a better understanding of the functioning of the symbolic and documentary power of the Church in the eastern Adriatic.
