Since the end of the twentieth century, numerous works have explored the place of women and social relations between men and women, focusing on the social elites. One of the main themes is the power of women, particularly the notion of queenship, with the tenth century presented as a privileged moment for the rise of women’s power in the aristocracy, due to the political and social transformations of the Carolingian world. This article will tackle the specific nature of the power of queens and the rise of lordly women within the aristocracy, as is the role of women in preserving aristocratic memory and within networks of power (agency). Finally, the tensions between various forms of masculinity specific to the tenth century will be discussed
