Tell Barri/Kahat: la campagna del 2000

In the plains of north-western Syria, not far from the course of the Tigris, is the Tell Barri site, identified with the city of Kahat. This is a centre well-known during the second millennium for the presence of the temple of the god of the storm and for the palace of Tukulti-Ninurta II, Assyrian king of the 9th century BC. The archaeological sequence brought to light in this site goes from the beginning of the third millennium up to the fourteenth century AD. From the Sumerian, Akkadian, Old-Babylonian, Assyrian evidence to the Achaemenid, Hellenistic, Parthian, Sassanid-Byzantine and finally medieval occupation. The volume illustrates the results of the excavation of the seventeenth campaign conducted by the University of Florence and the "Federico II" University of Naples.

Paolo Emilio Pecorella

Paolo Emilio Pecorella graduated with Giovanni Pugliese Carratelli in History of Ancient Anterior Asia at the University of Florence. He has been a student of the Italian Archaeological School of Athens, Inspector at the Superintendency of Antiquities of Etruria, in charge of the Eastern section, researcher at the Institute for Mycenaean and Aegean-Anatolian studies of the CNR. Moreover, he taught Near Eastern Archaeology at the University “L’Orientale” of Naples. Since 1984 he has been teaching in Florence and since 1989 he has been Full Professor of Archaeology and Art History of the Ancient Near East. He has conducted archaeological excavations in Greece, Turkey, Iran and Cyprus. Since 1980, he has been directing the Italian Archaeological Mission in Tell Barri, Syria.
