The volume explores the educational and transformative value of school, private, and community archives, presenting them as living tools for learning, participation, and active citizenship. Moving beyond a purely preservative approach, the author draws on the experience gained through research and outreach activities carried out by the National Institute for Documentation, Innovation and Educational Research (INDIRE), interpreting these places as dynamic spaces for the construction of meaning – spaces capable of engaging with the present and fostering a critical reading of historical narratives. In doing so, the book highlights the importance of a heritage often considered marginal, but which is, in fact, essential for understanding historical processes from plural and non-hegemonic perspectives. Inspired by the principles of Public History, the volume emphasizes how the integration of archives into educational practices – especially through digital access – can enrich teaching with inclusive, participatory methods that are attentive to the complexity of the real world. Ultimately, it offers a reflection on the need to recognize the strategic role of ‘minor’ archives in memory education and the development of global citizenship.
