In the rolling plains of north-eastern Syria is the Tell Barri site, identified with the city of Kahat. The archaeological sequence brought to light in this site goes from the beginning of the third millennium up to the fourteenth century AD, without solution of continuity. This report explains the results of the eighteenth campaign of excavations by the group of the University of Florence and the “Federico Il” University of Naples. In the G Area, the excavation of the third millennium chapel was pursued and a palatine building attributable to the middle Assyrian King Adad-Nirari I was brought to light; in Areas A and J the Parthian, Hellenistic and Achaemenid strata were excavated, up to the level of the Neo-Babylonian reoccupation of the Assyrian palace of Tukulti-Ninurta II. For the Parthian phase, the investigation of both the Great Defence Wall and the large building in the lower city continued. The text, delivered for printing in July 2005, sees the light after the tragic death of Paolo Emilio Pecorella, which took place on 29 August in Tell Barri, during the excavation campaign.
