Donum

Studi di storia della pittura, della scultura e del collezionismo a Firenze dal Cinquecento al Settecento
  • Edited by:
  • Marco Betti,
  • Carlotta Paola Brovadan,

The essays collected in Donum discuss different aspects of Florentine art from the 16th to the 18th century, such as sculptures displayed in gardens and palaces, the collecting preferences and strategies of the Medici family and those of the Tuscan aristocracy, drawings and paintings by local and foreign artists, and baroque wall decoration: these topics are analyzed in light of newly discovered artworks or previously unpublished documents. The common thread binding the papers together is the research method based on the study of archival sources and historical contexts, and on the connoisseurship. The volume gathers art historians who had been involved in the conference held in 2016 in honor of Mara Visonà as well as other scholars educated at the University of Florence.

Marco Betti graduated with honors in Art History at the University of Florence; in 2015 he is a fellow for Richmond University in London, and again in the United Kingdom he participates in 2017 as a speaker at the International Congress in Wax Modelling. After some experiences at the Superintendency of Florence, since 2012 he has been working as an external collaborator at the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, alongside, at the same time, the teaching of art history in high schools, schools for tourist guides and at the University of the Third Age. For about ten years he has been involved in the study of Tuscan painting and waxwork in the Baroque and late Baroque periods, with particular reference to artistic relations and cultural exchanges between Florence and England.
Carlotta Brovadan graduated in Art History from the University of Florence and earned her doctoral degree from the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”. She held a research fellowship at the Fondazione di Studi di Storia dell’Arte “Roberto Longhi” and collaborated with the Opificio delle Pietre Dure and the Uffizi Gallery’s Gabinetto Disegni e Stampe. She now works for the Fondazione Scuola dei beni e delle attività culturali in Rome. Her doctoral dissertation investigated cultural exchanges between Florence and France under Ferdinando II de’ Medici through the diplomatic correspondence included in the Mediceo del Principato archive and her main research interests are cultural diplomacy, gift giving and material culture.
