“SonoraMente©” is a choral music therapy project initiated in 2016 by Walter Vinci Onlus, aimed at individuals with dementia and their caregivers. Drawing on Benenzon’s music therapy model, it emphasises the value of Sound Identity (SOI) and the use of sound objects to foster pre-verbal communication. Adopting a relational and person-centred approach, the project seeks to enhance quality of life by addressing cognitive, emotional, and social dimensions. Choral singing has been shown to reduce behavioural disturbances and promote social engagement, facilitated by a multidisciplinary team and volunteers in an intergenerational context. Evaluations have demonstrated significant benefits for participants, alongside a reduction in caregiver burden. Through weekly sessions and awareness-raising initiatives, “SonoraMente©” offers an innovative and sustainable model for dementia care, promoting wellbeing and social inclusion.
