Politiche a favore dell’invecchiamento attivo in Italia: background, recenti sviluppi e prospettive future

  • Davide Lucantoni
  • Andrea Principi

Active ageing has been promoted for several decades by major international and European institutions due to its positive impact on individuals and society, especially in light of the economic and social challenges posed by current demographic trends. However, given the non-binding nature of international regulations on the topic, the promotion of active ageing largely depends on national government policies. This contribution aims to describe the development of active ageing promotion in Italy, identifying points of convergence across different experiences to foster future synergies. Initially characterized by fragmented, sectoral policies implemented at both national and regional levels, Italy has more recently moved toward a coordinated, multi-level approach to active ageing policies. This shift is partly due to a significant project-based experience focused on promoting active ageing at national and regional scales, and the subsequent approval of a new national regulatory framework, influenced by the outcomes of that experience.
