This volume collects several contributions by Luigi Balsamo (1926-2012), professor of Bibliography and Library Science at the universities of Venice and Parma. Known primarily as a scholar of Book History and Bibliography, between the 1960s and the 1980s Balsamo proved to be a leading protagonist of militant librarianship in his various positions as library director, bibliographic superintendent, and activist of the Association of Italian Librarians. His writings from that period, sometimes not easy to find, are reproposed here to restore a more complete profile of his cultural interests and to retrace, through his words, a key period in the history of libraries in Italy.
