The monograph is devoted to the influence of hymnographic texts on the ornamental prose of Slavia Orthodoxa, the borrowing by ancient scribes of passages from liturgical texts, the introduction of allusions and reminiscences to them in hagiographies and sermons of ornamental style, and the likening of the syntactic structure of sermons and individual fragments of hagiographies to the syntax of liturgical works. The works of East and South Slavonic authors who used the technique of hymnographic borrowing are considered; the emphasis is placed on the works of Cyril of Turov, Epiphanius the Wise, and Gregory Tsamblak. This study analyzes which liturgical books and how often they were used as literary sources, as well as which verses or canons were most frequently quoted and for what reasons they attracted the interest of Church Slavonic authors.
