In the early 18th century, many European courts sought to uncover the secret of porcelain, then known only to Saxony. In Naples, Charles of Bourbon and Maria Amalia of Saxony founded the Royal Factory of Capodimonte in 1753. In 1759, Charles became King of Spain and transferred the factory to Madrid.
