The essay reflects on the role of life transitions, understood as educational processes, in the professional development of educators and school professionals engaged in promoting pedagogical and educational care within pediatric hospital settings. Drawing on a literature review of the concept of transition, the paper integrates Dewey’s principle of continuity with insights from death education in the training of these professionals, who may be regarded as facilitators of significant biographical passages. This work also highlights how this proposed pathway emerges directly from the postgraduate course “La Scuola in Ospedale. Formare professionisti dell’educazione, della scuola, della cura”, which can be considered at once an educational process and a transition process.
