Luoghi per lavorare, pregare, morire. Edifici e maestranze edili negli interessi delle élites micenee

This volume presents a study of the Mycenaean buildings and construction workers (14th - 13th century BC approx.), characterized by a completely original view and an interdisciplinary approach, and aimed at integrating textual and archaeological data. The main problem the author is confronted with is the lack of coeval written sources specifically dedicated to the construction and the organization of construction sites, and of direct information on the classification of buildings. Therefore, her study aims at deepening the knowledge of the architectural typologies and building workers mentioned in the Mycenaean texts, at filling the gap between the types of buildings known thanks to epigraphs and the archaeological remains, at outlining the socio-economic framework required for the construction of buildings for important employers and for the organization and maintenance of the employed workforce.

BARBARA MONTECCHI specialized in Aegean Prehistory and Protohistory at the Italian Archaeological School of Athens, and was then awarded a PhD at the "G. Pasquali ” Department of Ancient Sciences of the University of Florence. In 2011, she was a contract professor for the course of Mycenaean civilization at the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy of the "Carlo Bo" University of Urbino. She is currently a research fellow, subject expert and contract professor at the SAGAS Department of the University of Florence.
