Animal constructions are usually seen as charming but humanly meaningless products of the biological world. However, animal nests, capture devices and other constructions are so varied and ingenious in their use of materials, forms, principles and techniques of building, and so superb in their functional performance, that they surpass the qualities of human constructions. Animal constructions are products of millions of years of evolution and adaptation, and these processes even include deliberate aesthetic choice. In the current era of ecological crises we can surely learn sustainable ways of building from animal architects.
