Is it possible to tell science using the tools of poetry? This book explores this issue by examining the often contradictory way of thinking of scientists and poets and by presenting an anthology of “scientific poetry”. The variety and number of examples proposed are surprising: they range from the simple description of fragments of science, to didactic poems, to the wonder and celebration of great discoveries and protagonists, to science as a metaphor for human life, to social and environmental implications of its use, to poetry as a vehicle for a more friendly approach to the natural world, to the humour of technical facts. The breadth of these themes seems to agree with the Italian poet Eugenio Montale when, talking about poetry, he said: «All you need is a sheet of paper and a pencil, and you're done».
