What can the meanings and functions of individual and collective knowledge be today, in the current education scenarios - meant as a continuous and widespread process? What cultural roots and matrices characterize the knowledge at play within different and varied educational contexts? How do individuals and social groups construct and use forms of knowledge responding to the emerging needs on a local and global level? Today, recognizing the polycentrism of contemporary cultural elaboration and grasping the multiple identities crossing the life of each subject requires pedagogical disciplines to examine the dynamics and production of knowledge, as well as the mechanisms of cognitive modelling, from a coherent perspective. The reflection offered in the volume starts from the theories on the process of construction of knowledge as the creative development of human potential: in the context of a planetary socialization of knowledge, the dynamics of the training process unfolds in the complex interaction between knowledge potential (in its rational, sensorimotor and emotional dimension) and knowledge networks. This interaction is analysed in the light of the developments of cognitivism and post-cognitivism, comparing a multiplicity of models and interpretations.
