Il commercio delle pelli lavorate nel basso Medioevo

Risultati dall'Archivio Datini di Prato
  • Antonella Fiorentino,

Hides and leathers are undoubtedly one of the main sectors in which the merchant strategies of Francesco di Marco Datini focus more. The numerous accounting records (Memorials and Accounting papers) - supplemented by the very large correspondence of the merchant, in particular the one exchanged between Avignon and the other offices of the Prato business system, and according to the articulated sections of the import and export trade of raw materials towards the processing districts - have made it possible to follow the path of those hides and leathers now transformed into finished products towards the end markets for wholesaling, and in an entirely original way, retail sale. A Catalan or Provencal sheepskin transformed in the Florentine area into the most diverse products for clothing, saddlery and armament, finally a finished product that resumes the sea route to reappear right on the same Spanish or Provencal market.
