The volume describes the results of the research conducted by the author during the three years of the PhD in "Landscape Design" in Florence. The first part of the work focuses on the theoretical and methodological aspects of the study of the agricultural landscape and on the description of its composing elements, of its formative processes, of the evolution of its structure. The second part is a practical application of the findings, with an original elaboration of the relationships that give rise to the different types of agricultural landscapes that now allow to define the Roman countryside. In summary, the research aimed to relate a cognitive model referred to the agricultural landscape with a specific territorial framework rich in emblematic landscape situations, with the objective of testing the feasibility of applying the identified and proposed interpretations, and of re-evaluating the role of the agricultural landscape within the current process of environmental and landscape requalification.
