This volume, dedicated to Revel Coles (who for many years worked on the Oxyrhynchus Papyri collection in Oxford), contains the edition of thirty Egyptian texts, belonging to various Italian and foreign collections, edited by papyrologists who, together with Revel Coles, have collaborated in England and Italy. The texts are almost all written in Greek (one is in Latin and one in Coptic), and offer a significant sampling of the culture and society of ancient Egypt, from the second century BC to the eighth AD: fragments of the works by the main authors of the Greek literature (such as Homer, Hesiod, Euripides) are here treasured, together with texts of applied magic and of liturgical content. The volume also includes everyday documents, such as petitions and various types of requests, a trial report concerning a corrupt official, tax receipts, reports from the public administration and private companies and a property exchange contract. Scholars of the various aspects of the ancient Greek and Roman world will find numerous elements of interest in this volume.
