The book contains three essays, derived from the elaboration of the degree theses of the authors, dealing with various aspects of territorial planning. The first illustrates two design assumptions for a washland along the Arno floodplain, aimed at demonstrating that a structure designed to protect the territory from flood damage can also provide an opportunity for the regeneration of the territory, the landscape and the environment. The objective of the second essay is the drafting of rules to be included in the bylaws of the planning instrument at municipal level. It takes its cue from the guidelines of Tuscan Regional Law 1/2005 for the drafting of the Structural Plans. The key issue of this thesis is the valorisation of the water resources. The third contribution addresses a study of the infrastructure system of the Empoli plain, and its redevelopment and conversion into a functional and efficient network to enhance the accessibility and utilisation of the Arno River Park. By attributing centrality to the river, the study contributes to the regeneration of the entire fluvial system.
