This volume focuses on the late medieval Mediterranean as a space of contact and interaction. It stems from DiplomatiCon, an EOS (Excellence of Science) project bringing together four research groups (Liège, Antwerp, Barcelona, Turin) devoted to the coordinated study of relations between the Mamluk Sultanate of Egypt, the Italian polities, and the Crown of Aragon. Individuals and groups came into contact across the Mediterranean for economic, political, religious or dynastic reasons, through varied modes of interaction and networks of differing range. Analysis of these networks, their languages and ramifications combines qualitative methods with computational tools, offering methodological insights and new historical interpretations.
