The discovery of a list of statues installed in the mid-17th century in Giovan Battista Muscettola’s villa in Posillipo, along with their estimated value, allows us to reconstruct not only the quantity and value of the collected works, but also their sequence within the spaces. Even with many uncertainties, we can distinguish between ancient and modern statues. Furthermore, some of its provenance can be identified despite the different acquisition methods attested by the document. Above all, we can get closer to the logic that guided the layout of the property, a testimony to the owner's taste and his religious and literary culture, an example of an exponent of the “nobility of the robe” between the Counter-Reformation and the Baroque.
