Telemedicine uses ICT technologies to provide healthcare services remotely when patients and professionals are not co-located. Early experiments in the 1990s at the University of Florence explored broadband and satellite networks for transmitting medical images and enabling remote consultations. European projects such as ISIS and GALENOS demonstrated interactive telemedicine, tele-radiology, and the concept of a “virtual hospital,” anticipating modern IoT-based health monitoring and digital healthcare systems.
