This article analyzes early Christian askēsis in Evagrius Ponticus and John Cassian, arguing that ascetic life combines vertical ascent toward God with horizontal struggle and stabilitas loci. Read with Sloterdijk, asceticism emerges as an embodied anthropotechnics.
