Leveraging Wikidata for Amateur Theatre Research: The WikiFAIR Approach of the P-CITIZENS Amateur Theatre Wiki

The ERC-funded project P-CITIZENS (Performing Citizenship) studies social and political roles of amateur theatre in Europe (1780–1850). In this effort we built the Amateur Theatre Wiki: a low-overhead platform whose structured data lives in Wikidata while narrative and media content remain local. Using a WikiFAIR approach we harvest troupe data (using OpenRefine and BeautifulSoup), reconcile entities, and render remote statements in infoboxes via UnlinkedWikibase. This separation improves reusability, interoperability, copyright clarity, and accessibility, and demonstrates a sustainable pattern for small to mid-sized humanities projects.
