The essay analyzes the position of the professional footballer with reference to the obligations of loyalty and good faith imposed by the Sports Legal System and by the the Civil Code. There are coincidences between the obligations established by the different Systems, from a conceptual and applicative point of view. From the analysis of the case studies it is clear that the use of the obligation of loyalty, imposed by the Sports Legal System for the evaluation of the athlete’s behavior, leads to non-homogeneous outcomes and risks of “distortions”. This also occurs in the jurisprudential application of the general clause of good faith in contractual matters.
