The football betting scandal that broke out in the first months of 1980, although it was the one that left the most unpleasant memories in the collective memory, especially due to the notoriety of the teams and players involved, was not the first scandal of its kind in our football. Between the fascist period, when football really began to be a mass phenomenon, and the eighties there were a series of “fixed” matches that dirty the image of our best-known sport, starting with the scandal involving the Juventus and national team full-back Luigi Allemandi in the 1926-1927 season. The paper analyzes this long period, marked by the events that between the fifties and seventies involved important clubs such as Milan, Udinese, Atalanta, Genoa and Foggia, and then faced the scandal of clandestine betting at the origin of the first major sporting process in our history.
