The aim of this work is to reconstruct the economic policy pursued by the governments led by Alcide De Gasperi during the First Republican Legislature, from 1948 to 1953. The essay is divided into three parts. In the first part, we will examine the economic policy of the Fifth De Gasperi government (May 1948 – January 1950), which sought to reconcile the achieved monetary stability with greater social justice. In the second part, we will analyze the policy of the Sixth De Gasperi government (January 1950 – July 1951), which launched a series of internal and European reforms: from the Agrarian Reform to the signing of the treaty establishing the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). Finally, in the third part, we will examine the policies of the Seventh De Gasperi government (July 1951 – July 1953), which attempted to complete the reforms that had been launched.
