Bioengineering research in Florence has developed non-invasive techniques to analyze neonatal cry signals as indicators of neurological and vocal system development. The open-source software BioVoice extracts acoustic parameters to identify differences between preterm and full-term infants and support early detection of conditions such as autism. The research later expanded to voice analysis in adults and singing, fostering international collaborations and workshops.
