The Introduction retraces the biographical trajectory of Giovanni Marco Isolani, a Bolognese nobleman and military engineer, who fought in Hungary from the 1590s until 1602 and was then taken captive by the Turks. It also introduces his history of the Hungarian wars, presenting the salient features of the critical edition that has been produced.
