Integrating Projects Working Around an Open Database of Published Music Recordings: a call for collaboration

  • Toni Sant

While Wikipedia’s WikiProject Music offers broad encyclopedic coverage, several initiatives within the Wikimedia ecosystem are advancing the structured representation of music metadata through Wikidata, Wikibase, and related platforms. These include AfroSounds, led by Oreoluwa (User:ReoMartins) in Nigeria since 2022; a Slovak music metadata proposal presented at the 2024 CEE Meeting; and the Malta Music Memory Project, developed by the author with the M3P Foundation since 2009. This article calls for collaboration within the digital humanities and data science to develop an interoperable data model and workflow for music metadata, incorporating automation where appropriate and addressing legal constraints that may require interim staging in Wikibase before integration with Wikidata.
