At the end of the Second World War, a period began in Italy marked by a renewed interest in the South, leading to a comprehensive rethinking of the paradigms of economic and social thought considered up to that point. "The Plan for the South" experiments with an intellectual, rather than political, alliance between exponents of diverse backgrounds and interests, bringing Italy to the center of international debate. The paper concisely reconstructs the main centers of economic thought; it connects the moments of study to the economic policy choices of political power; it places the timing of technical thought within the framework of international historical events.
