Starting from Open city (1945) by Roberto Rossellini, till today extraordinary document/ monument to the will for rebirth of the italian people, and using the cinema as a source for history , the author try to tell and reconstruct the first steps of a common path that wants to leave behind the rubble, the pain, the death, to affirm an unprecedented yearning for freedom and democracy. With neorealism the cinema will become the privileged metronome and diary of the cultural and social processes of postwar italian life.
