The present contribution discusses two advisory opinions on State climate obligations before international courts: the advisory opinion on climate obligations and the protection of the marine environment delivered by the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) on 21 May 2024, and the advisory opinion on Obligations of States in respect of Climate Change requested of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) by a UN General Assembly resolution adopted on 12 April 2023. After summarizing a number of key conclusions of the ITLOS advisory opinion, a few reflections on the questions pending before the ICJ are offered.
