To fully understand bioregionalism, we must discuss regions and regionalist demands. In the second half of the 19th century, decentralization and devolution of state power became part of the political debate: regionalism gradually faded away and bioregionalism, in its Californian and Italian forms, became the new horizon for alternative movements, as illustrated by the examples given.
