The palace was built between 1535 and 1540 by Ferdinando Alarcon; inherited by his daughter Isabella, it underwent extensive renovations between 1542-‘51, which were continued between 1575-‘91 by her grandson Ferdinando de Alarcon y Mendoza. In 1808, it was acquired by the Caracciolo di Torella family, sold in 1837 to Leopold of Bourbon, and then passed to his wife, Maria Filiberta di Savoia-Carignano. Resold to Baron Francesco Compagna, it was acquired in 1889 by the Prince Caravita of Sirignano, and transformed in a neo-medieval style as part of the development of the Rione Sirignano on the site of the former gardens.
