Authority control

Definizioni ed esperienze internazionali (Firenze, 10-12 febbraio 2003)

The conference whose proceedings are published was intended as a moment of reflection on a key aspect of cataloguing. Authority control is the process for ensuring the formal homogeneity of each item chosen to access: author, title, institution, subject. Authority control is an integral operation of the architecture of the catalogue: it contributes to achieving the objectives by taking care of the quality of the indexes of the records. In addition to being an opportunity for theoretical confrontation between the world's leading experts in the field, the conference was also intended to make a contribution to the debate on the revision of national cataloguing codes and their possible standardisation.
