The translations of zoonyms in the Exodus are the focus of this contribution. Among them, there are the locusts, of which the scribe of Bern Burgerbibliotek 27 declares not to know the French correspondent. Another case is represented by the sciniphes. This term appears problematic for several reasons, such as the fact that it is not found in Old French dictionaries. Also, it presents ambiguities from a semantic point of view: in fact, it is found replaced by terms probably considered by copyists to be more common or by periphrastic phrases. The analysis has been extended to the comparison of the Bible du IIIe siècle with the Exodus of the Tanakh to show how much the support of the Hebrew text can be fruitful for a more in-depth analysis in the Old French field.
