The contribution proposes a reflection on the possibilities of framing ceramic artefacts of daily and common use through their technological characteristics, taking as an example hand-made geometrically painted ceramics (the Hand Made Geometrically Painted Ware) in the Bilad al Sham, between the XI and XIII century, not as the only distinction, but as an element from which to start. The proposed exemplification allows us to address issues that are applicable in a broader way, both from a geographical and chronological point of view.
