This paper offers a preliminary analysis of the Romance tradition of Rorgo Fretellus’s Descriptio de locis sanctis, one of the major medieval Latin itineraries of the Holy Land. The study examines key passages from its Old French translation, known as Terre de Promission, and the Castilian Fazienda de Ultra Mar, which extensively draws on the Descriptio. Adopting a comparative perspective, my paper aims to show similarities and distinctions between the two works, with a particular focus on the role of geographical space and the cult of relics.
