Гуманизм и «гуманизмы»: (еще раз) к постановке методологической проблемы

  • Ovanes Akopyan

This study addresses the enduring methodological challenge of defining Renaissance "humanism," tracing the evolution of scholarly interpretations from Burckhardt to the present. Central to this analysis is the juxtaposition of two dominant paradigms: Eugenio Garin’s view of humanism as a philosophical transformation of human dignity, and Paul Oskar Kristeller’s definition rooted in the professional studia humanitatis. The article further distinguishes between the pedagogical curriculum and the broader concept of humanitas, focusing on Marsilio Ficino’s theological integration of eruditio, philanthropia, and unitas. Contrasting Ficino’s synthesis with the "anti-humanism" of modern continental philosophy, the author contends that contemporary scholarship must transcend the Garin-Kristeller dichotomy. The study concludes by advocating for a pluralistic framework that recognizes the diverse religious and philosophical dimensions of the humanist tradition.
