The turn of the 20th century witnessed a profound engagement between Russian culture and the Italian Renaissance. This article examines the scholarship of Vladimir N. Zabughin (1880–1923), a historian and key figure of the Russian religious-philosophical renaissance. Focusing on Zabughin’s work in Italy, the study explores his efforts to bridge Western and Eastern Christianity through the "Eastern theme" in humanism. The analysis centers on Zabughin’s contributions to the journal Roma e l’Oriente (1910–1921), specifically his column «Greco-Slavic Religious Questions among Renaissance Writers». By examining his readings of Dante, Pomponio Leto, and Guarino da Verona, the article demonstrates how Zabughin reconstructed the Italian reception of Byzantine culture. Ultimately, it argues that Zabughin’s work reveals a fundamental spiritual kinship within Christian Europe, emphasizing historical instances of mutual understanding that transcended confessional divisions.
