The conclusion argues that sufficient causes and causal mechanisms provide a disciplined language for explaining complex social outcomes without reducing them to universal laws. It summarizes how mechanisms can be identified, compared, and assembled into conceptual frameworks and middle-range theories, while remaining attentive to scope conditions, feedback, and institutional interdependence. The chapter also highlights the practical value of causal analysis: by locating combinations of conditions and sequences that are sufficient for an outcome, social inquiry can better orient diagnosis, comparison, and intervention.
