The NbS CataTool of the National Biodiversity Future Center

  • Chiara Catalano

The NbS CataTool, developed within the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC), is a decision-support system designed to support the selection, implementation, and mainstreaming of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) across urban, terrestrial, and marine environments in the Mediterranean region. Built on a standardised taxonomy of over 100 NbS and an interconnected case study database, it bridges scientific evidence and operational decision-making. The system includes a stepwise Selection Tool, an exploratory Learning Tool, and a georeferenced Case Study Finder. Each solution and case study is described through summary cards, detailed sheets, and expert-based evaluations linked to 12 global societal challenges, within a harmonised framework aligned with European policies and standards.
