Near the hill of Posillipo (Naples) and along its coast persists the structures of the Villa Pausilypon, an imperial complex of Augustus and, before that, a private residence of Publius Vedius Pollio. Built on both sides of the Gaiola valley, on various terraces sloping down to the sea, it remains challenging to establish its actual extension, its various chronological phases, its structural transformations, and the plan of some structures, particularly in the now-submerged coastal strip.
