Le cause sufficienti nelle scienze sociali

  • Nicolò Bellanca

This chapter develops the conceptual and methodological foundations for identifying sufficient causes in the social sciences. It distinguishes sufficient causes from causal mechanisms, shows how mechanisms connect causes and effects through counterfactual reasoning and background conditions, and proposes a procedure based on ideal types, scope conditions, and analytical decomposition. It compares causal-pie and fundamental-causality approaches, defends inference to the best explanation as a rational standard, and identifies the limits imposed by complexity, feedback, and interdependence.
