The contribution deals with two «little gods» of Roman religion, Deverra and Averruncus, whose names are connected to the verb verrere, «to sweep». In addition, it examines the controversial figure of the everriator, the protagonist of a domestic rite that took place during the mourning period, arguing that his profile is clarified precisely by the two deities whose etymology he shares.
