The author comments on and publishes a long unpublished letter from Enrico Damiani to Luigi Salvini, written a few days after the end of World War II. The letter, dated June 28, 1945, provides us with a wealth of information on the fate of many Italian and European professors of Slavic languages and literature who were active in various universities or in close contact with various Italian Slavicists during a period of reconstruction and restructuring of universities after the surrender of Nazi Germany and the puppet government of the Italian Social Republic.
